Episode 146 was posted today. It features the Rogues discussing the last 3 years of the SGU. Listen to it on iTunes, read the official episode notes and discuss the episode on the forums. Also make sure to check out my alt-summary of the episode. This was a good week for 5x5. It made it on the "Featured Podcasts" list in iTunes. This has bumped its ranking. I've seen it as high as #49 in top podcasts overall, #3 in Science podcasts (The SGU is at #7) and #2 in the Natural Sciences podcasts. If you haven't given it a try yet, make sure you do by subscribing to it on iTunes. The Rogues have finally released the new logo for everyone to see. I present to you the new logo for the Skeptics' Guide to the Universe: ![]() |

Episode 145 was released this weekend and includes a great interview with Kirsten Sanford, one of Steve's co-Skeptologists. Listen to it through iTunes, check out the episode notes and read my alt-summary. A lot has been going on in the last 2 months. We're working on the new website design for the main SGU site. The new SGU logo is ready and looks freakin' AMAZING. According to Jay we should have it available for you guys to see by next week. Steve and Rebecca both did lectures for the NYC Skeptics in the last 2 months. Check out the bottom of sound page to listen to them or visit the NYC Skeptics' website. TAM6 is just around the corner, only about a month and a half away. This is setting itself up to be the best one ever. Hopefully we will get to meet a lot of SGU Fans there. Go to Randi's TAM6 website to buy your tickets ASAP. I've made a few regular updates to the site, including adding some fan bios, more sound clips, bringing my alt-summaries up to date, adding the rules to the SGU Drinking Game and updating the Science or Fiction stats. The SGU forums are using a new software package called SMF. I find it MUCH better than the old phpBB and more user friendly. Check out the forums to participate in the lively conversations going on there. Also a big thank you to the forums' new technical admin ducky for making the software change a possibility. Last, but certainly not least, three years ago today, the very first episode of the SGU was recorded. If you have time this week, listen to episode 1 of the SGU. You'll see the Rogues have come a long way since then. HAPPY 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO THE SGU!!

All episode alt-summaries have been added. Congrats to Jay for matching his Science or Fiction record of 9 wins in a row. Find out in this week's episode if he can beat his record. Also check out the SGU 5x5 where yours truly was a guest panelist for episodes 8 and 9 while Jay was vacationing in Hawaii. Lots of skeptical fun was had. Rebecca was a guest on episode 16 of the Amateur Scientist podcast recently. Give it a listen. For those of you who wanted a list of books recommended by the rogues from episode 136, I created an Amazon store with the recommended books. Just click this link or click the "SGU Suggested Reading" link in the left bar.

I posted my alt-summaries for all missing episodes. I know it's been a while and I could come up with a generic excuse. Actually, I have one. I've been working 14 hour shifts and I'm working on changing the site software over to a CMS system. That might make it easier to manage. If I could just figure out how the frack it works. Anyone know Joomla? Or can suggest a better one? For those of you in the New York City area or those of you who would go to the ends of the Earth to hear Rebecca lecture (you know you're out there). She is presenting a lecture for the New York City Skeptics on Saturday, February 16th from 1 to 3pm and promises fun and drinks afterward. So get to it people. I might just be there too, for those of you who would show up to see me (hi mom). Click here for more details. I do a funny quote every so often, and here's the one I picked from last episode. Had me in tears. Bob: "If they won the linguistic battle, then f*ck them!" Nice work Bob. TAM 6 registration has opened up, grab it while it's hot! The Flamingo hotel and casino has also offered a group rate, definitely grab THAT asap. Lastly, for you skeptics in the Ottawa, Ontario area (that's my area). Check out the new skeptical group, Ottawa Skeptics, founded by SGU Fan (and Steven Novella super-fan) jonny_eh.

Episode 1 is up right now. Subscribe on iTunes or download directly from the SGU site here. Also take a look at Steve's new project, Science Based Medicine. It's a blog discussing, well, science-based medicine. It includes some great authors. Steve got some great minds together for this one. |

My alt-summaries are finally up to date again. Sorry for the delay, I blame christmas. Check out the most recent episode which includes the much discussed Alex Tsakiris interview. Rebecca recently released her pilot radio show called Curiosity, Aroused. I gave it a listen yesterday and I must say I am impressed, nice work Rebecca. If this gets picked up I might have to register curiosityarousedfans.net. Listen to it here. Look for interviews with Steve on a few other shows in the next few weeks, including interviews on Skepticality and Brain Science podcasts. Seems like the good doctor is doing his christmas rounds.

Just a quick note to let you all know that this weekend's updates might come a little late. Including the new episode alt-summary and any fan bios I receive. This is because I'm spending the next 5 days in the beautiful state of Connecticut and visiting Bob's famous Haunted Corn Maze. I also want to wish Rebecca a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Try not to party and drink too much.... yeah.. right. heh. Rebecca was born 27 years ago today.

You still have a week to send in your skeptical-themed limericks to be read on the show. Do it now. Funny Quote of the Week: Steve: "Maybe we have a 5th dimension coming out of a four-assed monkey." Remember to DIGG the SGU. We're currently at #39 in overall podcasts and rising! And also take a minute if you haven't already to write a review on iTunes. |

Steve was interviewed on Line One, a medical radio show on KSKA in Alaska. Listen to the MP3 of that episode here. Also, if you're part of the lucky few who will be in the Brookfield, CT area in October, check out Bob's Halloween Corn Maze. He spends a huge amount of time on this and I have only heard awesome things. I will be there on the October 20th weekend. If any of you will be in that area that weekend, maybe we can get a bunch of skeptics together to visit the maze and go out for drinks or something. I've confirmed that a few of the rogues will be there. |

| Episode 113 has been released and is, in my opinion, one of the best and funniest SGUs ever. It's definitely worth a listen, especially the Science or Fiction. Listen to it via iTunes. | In a moment of dumbassness on my part, I just realized that a bunch of fan bio submissions have hit my spam filter in the last couple of months. I fixed the filter and added and updated all the bios sent to me since July (!!!). Thanks RMZ for bringing it to my attention. On another note, voting has begun for the final round of the Public Radio Talent Quest. Make sure you check out all the entries (especially Rebecca's) and cast your votes (especially for Rebecca). |

Episode 112 is out. Listen to it on iTunes. Check out the episode notes, the forum thread and the alt-summary. Very interesting interview with David Colquhoun who runs DC's Improbable Science blog. Also features interesting discussion about Bill Meier and Michael Horn, who are apparently a bunch of asses. Congrats to Peacock for being the first to answer last week's skeptical puzzle correctly. Try to answer this week's puzzle on the forums. I think it's already been answered correctly though, Paul seems to be right on with his answer of Frank Stallone who, of course, is "a matrix that is made up of the cross product of the product of the transpose of the first two matrices (imagine them as columns rather than rows and you'll see what I mean.)" Congrats also go out to Rebecca for making it to what sounds like the final round of the Public Radio Talent Quest. Voting for this round begins this week so make sure you take the time to listen and vote. The SGU has made it to the top 50 podcasts on Digg. If you haven't dugg them already, do it now.

I added some more pics to the August 11th gallery. Thanks to Hip Nixon for sending them. I've also added a "donate" button to the left under the most recent episode info. This started kind of as a joke on the forums here but some people actually requested that I set something up to donate, so there it is. Everything sent there will be used to help me get to TAM6. If you're willing to give a little something don't forget to think of the NESS first. The donate link for the NESS can be found at the bottom on the left where it says "Support the SGU". Other ways to support the SGU are listed there too, SGU Uncut, the SGU Store and Digg the SGU.

| I'm back!! I had a wonderful vacation. You can read all about it at Full-Frontal Skepticism where I tried to post a daily entry about my trip and the fact that I was there when STS-117 launched!! | Few updates. First, Thespis was gracious enough to create a Frappr map for the SGU and SGUFans.net. It's linked at the bottom left of this page and also right here. Thanks Thespis. Second, I've changed my episode index page to put all episodes on the same page. This will make it easier to navigate. I have also added a little bit of info for each episode on that page including the recording date, interviewee, and a link to the official episode notes on the SGU page. Third, I went through all my episode alt-summaries to fix typos in the funny quotes section. I'll be doing the same for the Interesting Facts sections soon. Lastly, I've added a Science or Fiction stats page which you can access from the new episode index page. Right now, it shows the games played and games won for each panelist with a bar graph. Eventually I will be putting in a few interesting facts including the number of times that everyone has won, the number of times no one has won and a list of guest players. If you read Full-Frontal Skepticism, you'll notice that I've started posting more often. I want to try to put in a new post at least every other day. Please feel free to sign up, I'll give you author permissions so you can write your own entries about science, skepticism and the SGU. |

SGU FORUM ISSUES: Very recently the forums have been acting all wacky. Bugs here and there. Although no cause has been pin-pointed yet, a few probable causes are being looked into. Rest assured it IS being looked at and should be resolved shortly. UPDATE: The problems seem to have been resolved. If you have any other problems please send them to Rebecca and/or myself.

After a big push, The Skeptics' Guide is the #1 ranked podcast on Digg in the Science category by a large margin! Don't let this stop those of you who haven't dugg it yet. We're aiming for the #1 spot in ALL podcasts! So DIGG the SGU! Steve was on Infidel Guy's The Debate Hour last night debating Dr. Fred A. Baughman Jr. The topic was "Is the field of Psychiatry scientific?" and according to the IG page, dealt a lot with the ADHD debate. I haven't listened to it yet. You can download it here. Lots of fun stuff happening on the forums. Most notably the new game brought to us by Apeiron and Sabbie called Mafia. It's a great forum game that involves a lot of evidence analysing, critical thinking and psychological games. Great for honing your skeptical skills. Check out the first complete game here. And the one currently going with a South Park theme here. Thanks Apeiron and Sabbie!! I'll be hosting one soon. Now that I'm finally caught up with the episode alt-summaries, you'll see a few additions to the site soon. I'm working on a Science or Fiction Stats page which will be updated weekly. I'm also working on a Skeptical Puzzle list of winners. I will also be posting more often on our Full-Frontal Skepticism blog. I invite you all to sign up for an account, the purpose of the blog was originally to have many fellow skeptics and SGU fans post entries. So far I'm the only one. So sign up, send me an email and I'll give you author priviledges so you can start posting whenever you have something to say about science, skepticism and/or the SGU. |

Episode #90 was posted on Friday. First time we hear a guest panelist on the show. Jacek, a long time member of the NESS and listener was great! He really added great content and funny quotes to the episode. I did miss Rebecca though. So go listen to it on iTunes, go to the episode notes to find out more and check out the thread on the forums. All in all a great episode with a lot of covered topics. Well I finally did it! This is why there hasn't been much activity on here recently. I decided to give the episode alt-summaries a push and finally made it through all of them. It only took me 2 months, over 100 hours of listening and re-listening to 2 episodes because I had lost my notes. What a great time to go back through all the episodes. It was very interesting to hear the evolution of the show from 4 podcast newbies with an idea and poor audio to the professional quality we consistently hear in today's episodes. You've really come a long way guys! So check out the newest episode alt-summaries from 72-80 and from 81 to 90. Lots of GREAT quotes. You can also listen to all the ones that made me laugh the most at the sound index. If you want any specific quotes up on the sound page, just email me the episode number and timestamp and I'll put it up as soon as I can. I also posted new fan bios. When you have a chance, check out the chatroom. Always fun times in there. It's usually pretty busy around 10pm-11pm (Eastern), some of the rogues pop in once in a while around that time.
April 4th, 2007
Episode 70 and 71 alt-summaries have been posted. Included is the one where Bob finally gets called on his "Billions of dollars" line. Listen to it in our sound index. I plan to have up to episode 80 posted by Sunday. If you haven't done it yet, DIGG THE SGU! We're #2 in the Science Podcast category with only a few more votes until we reach #1. Check out the chatroom for regular fun and skeptical discussion with a bunch of fans and the occasional rogue or 2.
April 1st, 2007
Episode 88 was posted and has an interesting interview with a chiropractic doctor. You can check out the episode notes here, the thread on the forums here, and the skeptical puzzle thread here. And, of course, listen to it via iTunes. Congrats to cosmicvagabond for correctly answering episode #87's skeptical puzzle. FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Perry: "These were hermaphrodites? Ahh they can go F themselves." I posted the alt-summaries to episodes 61-69. I've changed the format of the funny quotes to make them easier to read. Check them out. Bob finally gives us his famous BILLIONS line a few times. You can listen to them in the sound index. I also posted a few more fan bios. Check out the chatroom! It's been VERY active and we're having some great conversations in there. You can also catch one or more of the panel themselves in there once in a while. We've had Perry, Steve, Evan, Jay and Bob in there to chat with us. And there was also an unconfirmed Rebecca sighting as well. So get in the chatroom and chat with fellow skeptics.
March 28th, 2007
I posted the alt-summaries for episodes 58-60 which include even MORE of the now infamous monkey/bird debate. Check out the clips in the sound index. Episode 88 will be recorded tonight. This episode will feature an interview with a chiropractic physician. No, not THAT chiropractic physician. Perry graced us with his presence in the chatroom last night and dragged Steve along with him!! THANKS PERRY AND STEVE!!! We had a GREAT time and we hope you can make it again soon! So go to the chatroom. You never know when one of the skeptical rogues will pop in. Perry. You're the MAN! MONKEYS ALL THE WAY! I'm currently writing up a novel entitled "Why the world needs more Perrys", this should be an instant best-seller. Steve said he'll send in his bio for the site shortly. There were some technical difficulties.
March 26th, 2007
Bunch of updates were uploaded today starting with the Episode 51-57 alt-summaries which include some great soundbytes including more on the great monkey/bird debate. I also posted up a couple of fan bios that were sent in. Keep em coming! And finally, I updated the Interviewees index following a suggestion by Neutral Milk with the episode numbers where each guest appeared. Episode 87 was posted on Saturday. Listen to it via iTunes. Check out the official episode notes and the Episode 87 thread on the forums. I'd usually suggest the skeptical puzzle thread as well, but cosmicvagabond is back to his old ways again and already answered the puzzle. Another great episode with an interview of Robert Lancaster, better known as the webmaster at stopsylviabrowne.com. Some great funny quotes. including the instant classic: FUNNY QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Jay: "I've got baloney tits." Lots has been going on in the chatroom. If you haven't gone in there, go check it out NOW. There's some awesome discussions on there all day long. It's great to be a skeptic in this information age. Thank you to IRON MAN for starting some great discussions and debates in the chatroom. Go hear IRON MAN's Aussie accent NOW in the chatroom! I've been posting daily (or trying) on our Full-Frontal Skepticism blog. Anyone can blog on there. So sign-up and rant away. Also, check out the forums. Always great discussions going on there too including the thread about the fact that France has opened up its UFO files, a great discussion topic about the darkside of science, and the hilarious SCrim's dailly fun facts about Canada. |
March 21st, 2007
Posted up episodes 46-50 today. Great funny quotes and interesting facts as usual. Episode 51 is next and I need to take a small breather before I tackle the famous Neal Adams episode. Happy Vernal Equinox! Check out Steve's post on NeuroLogica Blog here about the vernal equinox. Speaking of blogs. Go look at Rebecca's Memoirs of a Skepchick. The applications to the Skepchick/Skepdude calendars are up for the 2008 calendars. Episode 87 should be recorded tonight, if you guys are reading this. Say HI TO MIKE! (I try) ;) Oh, and JAY! You better kick some Science or Fiction ass! Read this, it might help. You've almost surpassed Perry! While waiting for episode 87 to be posted on Saturday (or Friday night like episode 86, nice work Steve!) check out the forums for some interesting threads such as this one on Atheism and Morality. This one started by IRON MAN which compared to the ever popular Chiropractic Physician thread entitled I'm a Therapeutic Touch Practitioner. Blast Away. And also the thread about the Pros and Cons of Vegetarianism. And lastly, this one about the US Education System. You might notice a few changes in the forums. They have been categorized a little further, the default logo has FINALLY changed, and a link to the official SGU Site has been added at the top of every page. that's because there's a new sheriff in town. Me! ;)

The chatroom is back up by popular demand. I've changed programs and hosts for it though. It is now hosted on Stickam. This is a text, voice and video chatroom. We've already been having great conversations in there in the last 3 days. The only slight drawback is that Stickam requires registration, but it's a very easy process which doesn't even send you the dreaded confirmation email. So join the room and come and chat with us.

Episode 86 was released. Click here for the official episode notes. Listen to it via iTunes. And then post about it on the forums at the official Episode #86 thread. Finally, test your skills at this week's interesting skeptical puzzle on the Episode #86 Puzzle thread. Congrats go out to Ole Eivind for answering last week's skeptical puzzle correctly. I removed the chatroom because it wasn't being used. If I get more demand for it at a later date I might put it up again. But to replace it, I've decided to stare a blog. So I give you Full-Frontal Skepticism. What I plan on doing with this is post every few days. But I also want you guys to participate. I'm giving you a soap box to stand on here to address the world. When you sign up, just send me an email at sgufan@sgufans.net and I'll set you up with author privileges. The only thing I ask is that you keep the posts science/skepticism/SGU related. I posted the alt-summaries for episodes 43-45 and will hopefully hit episode 50 by the end of the weekend. I also posted a couple more fan bios. Also, check out this exchange between our very own Dave the Drummer and Neal "giraffe." Adams. It's an interesting read.
March 13th, 2007
I posted the alt-summaries for Episodes 40, 41 and 42. I'm VERY close to being halfway through the episodes. There were some AWESOME sounds in episode 42 that you HAVE to check out, most importantly the very beginnings of the great monkey/bird debate!! Check it out in the sounds index. I'm been working on a few side-projects that you'll see soon as soon as I get some feedback from a few people. In the meantime, check out the forums for some great discussions including a debate on wether the podcast Point of Inquiry needs a new host, the very popular thread entitled Why are so many skeptics/atheists Libertarian?, another popular thread about a misconception among skeptics, the thread that attempts to answer wether pitbulls are dangerous and a great idea re-visited in The YouTube Thread. Also the genius idea of IRON MAN continues with two new posts: - Butters' Very Own Episode - SCriminal - Butters' Very Own Episode - CleveDan Also check out NeuroLogica blog for a great post (as usual) by Dr Novella dealing with repressed memory. And check out Memoirs of a Skepchick for the post Why is Earth Hot? by skepchick Evelyn for some very interesting information.

Episode 85 was posted yesterday. Check out the official notes here. Read the official thread on the forums here and the seperated Episode 85 puzzle thread here. You can listen to it by subscribing via iTunes. The episode was good, there was no interview, but the topics covered were really interesting. Especially about Skeptico and Marylin Schlitz's comments about the SGU, specifically about Steve. You can read the thread on the forum on this topic here. Congrats to Iandbert for getting the correct answer to last week's skeptical puzzle! Funny Quote of the Week: "Perry show us on the doll where science touched you." - Rebecca I posted a few more fan bios along with episodes 37-39. The episodes are getting better and funnier and as a result I have been adding more sound clips from the episodes including the Omega-3 Bacon bet. Check out the sound index for that. I have also posted Steve's articles that I could find online. They are all AWESOME reads. Check out IRON MAN's awesome new thread idea entitled "Butters' Very Own Episode" where each thread will focus on a specific forum poster in order to learn more about them. Here are the ones up so far: - Butters' Very Own Episode - Mike - Butters' Very Own Episode - heliocentricra - Butters' Very Own Episode - mindme - Butters' Very Own Episode - a3maniac - Butters' Very Own Episode - cosmicvagabond - Butters' Very Own Episode - IRON MAN Also if you have time, check out another popular thread started by our resident chiropractic physician called Whiplash. Is it real ot imagined? Also check out Common Fallacies about Logical Fallacies to learn more about logical fallacies and Culture Questions (for non-US or Canadians) to learn more about other cultures.
March 8th, 2007
Episode 37 posted. Nothing much else to report. In case you care, I re-wrote my bio. If you have time check out this video entitled "Baby Got Bible" based on Sir-Mix-Alot's "Baby Got Back". It's fun to laugh with it and AT it. Oh and HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY to all the skepchicks out there!! Why not check out Rebecca's blog to see what the awesome skepchicks there are up to.
March 7th, 2007
Episodes 31-36 have been posted. I'm now doing the episodes that include Rebecca, so you can bet there will be a LOT more funny quotes per episode. I also started adding more funny quote sounds in the media section. Check those out, they're hilarious. And Evan finally sent in his bio. Check it out here. It turns out one of his dislikes is "gangsta rap", so I can't WAIT to hear what he comes up with for his much-anticipated skeptical rap. Jay sent me some Perry pics!! Check em out in the pictures page. I'm a chiropractic physician... blast away has officially become the most posted on topic in the forums, surpassing the introduction thread. It's worth a read as it contains great examples of arguments, facts and logical fallacies. Another popular thread is this one by Sam entitled Answering Believers. If you have time I urge you to go check out Steve's latest post on NeuroLogica blog answering Winston Wu's Debunking Common Skeptical Arguments Against Paranormal and Psychic Phenomena. It's WELL worth the read, great job Steve. If you haven't already, go get the SGU Uncut #1.
March 5th 2007
I updated the media section with a couple of pics and a video that Bob sent to me. THANKS BOB!!! They are some great pics from Halloween with the Novellas dressed up as zombies. Those guys really put a LOT of thought into Halloween (and maybe billions and billions of dollars!). I should have the alt-summaries for episodes 31 to 38 up by the end of the week. If you have time and want to contribute, please send me some skeptical articles or essays that you have written. I would love to see some fan-submitted stuff on here. That's part of what this site is for. Also, it might be worth it to check out the forums for all the great threads going on there. Including (but of course not limited to) a thread not dedicated to skepticism with some really great and funny stuff, this thread where, if people participate, will be a great resource for skeptical and scientific videos. Oh, and some GREAT teamwork going on in the Episode 84 thread to figure out this week's skeptical puzzle. So far, in my opinion, the best answer is "Zener Cards", but who knows what our puzzle master/skeptical rapper has up his sleeve.
March 4th, 2007
Episode 84 was great, as usual. The panelists finally take and respond to a critical e-mail. The virgin Mary on the pizza pan looks more like a hand giving the finger to me. Check it out here and let us know what you think on the forums, Some great jokes and ad-libbing between the panelists. GREAT interview with Ken Feder about James Cameron and the tomb of Jesus. Check out this thread on the forums about it. And this posting on Steve's NeuroLogica Blog. This is Ken Feder's second SGU appearance, the first being on Episode 56, and they've both been amazing. This is a guest I wouldn't mind listening to more often on the SGU. Oh... and... HOLY CRAP JAY WON SCIENCE OR FICTION!!! AND WAS THE ONLY WINNER!!! Congrats Jay. You're one step closer to meeting part of the Science or Fiction Challenge for Jay. Keep it up! As jason said: "The come-back begins". Funny quote of the week: "She showed up next to two meatballs and a sausage, you know what I'm sayin'?" - Jay (about the virgin Mary on a pizza pan) Congrats to Viking054 for answering Episode 83's Skeptical Puzzle correctly. That puzzle and this week's puzzle are examples of GREAT puzzles. They are NOT easily "googleable" and really make listeners try to come up with the solution by working together. GREAT WORK EVAN!! Keep them coming. I guess I never formally announced this on the site but THERE'S A CHATROOM!! Check it out here (or click the link in the navigation menu). We've had a few good discussions in there already. I posted the episode 30 alt-summary. Also check out the articles and essays section for Bob and Perry. And I posted a bunch of extra fan bios. Steve posted the SGU poll #2, go answer it as soon as you can to let our skeptical rogues know if you want more or less true-believer interviews. If you have time, check out a poll by cosmicvagabond about morals and woo-wooism, also check out the continously active and interesting Q&A session between the fans and a chiropractic physician. Check out this thread about Penn Radio going off the air.

Episode 84 is posted. Listen to it via iTunes here, read the official notes here and go check out the discussion about it on the forums here. I'll post a short review on it later on or tomorrow morning when I have a chance to listen to it, today has been REALLY busy. I usually wait around for Steve to post it and listen to it ASAP. Alas, that could not happen today. I'm also planning on a few updates, first of which is done, as you can see to the left, there's a new menu system. I think it's neat. :) It works fine for me, but if you have problems with it please do not hesitate to email me at sgufan@sgufans.net. I'm also almost done with the list of articles for Bob and Perry, so that should be up soon. I'm still working on the problem with Perry's bio. I just have to wait to hear from the man himself because my attempts to fix it have come up as dead ends. Hopefully I won't have the same problem with his articles. I'm also almost done with a few more episode alt-summaries.
March 2nd, 2007
Well I posted episodes 26, 27, 28 and 29 this morning. Should do 30 by tonight. Posted a few more fan bios. (Keep them coming). Oh, and Bob and Perry sent their bios in, though I've been having problems displaying Perry's bio. Hopefully I can have the problem fixed soon. Until then check out the boards. Phil Plait, The Bad Astronomer himself has been on and posting recently, especially in the very popular thread about his recent debate with Joe Rogan on Penn Radio. Steve offered him a chance to debate Joe on the SGU, hopefully something comes of this. You should also check out this thread by CapeRoadie, a chiropractic physician who was gracious enough to post on the board to answer all of our questions, it's a very active and interesting thread. If you haven't checked out the awesome premium content already. Do it now! It's worth every single penny (and more!)
February 28th, 2007
BREAKING NEWS: SGU UNCUT #1 has been released!! This includes the uncut TAM5 interviews with John Rennie and Phil Plait. All for only $1.99!! Check it out here! I'm listening to it right now and it's WELL worth the $1.99!
February 27th, 2007
13,500 downloads!! That's about how many downloads the latest episodes are getting!! We're getting closer and closer to the 100,000 mark with every episode! Of course we all know that that "defies the laws of the universe". So be ready for the universe to implode. 13,500 is pretty high, and I've been getting so many of your bios it feels like I'm getting close to that number too. I'm slowly adding them and although the form says 24-48 hours, it might take an extra day or two. But KEEP THEM COMING! You guys are awesome! I really didn't expect this level of participation. One could say I was a little skeptical. I've posted the alt-summaries to episodes 24 and 25. I should reach 30 by the end of the week if all goes as planned. I've heard through "inside sources" that Evan's bio should be in soon. However you can check out a version of it on the forums here which includes a short Q&A period with our puzzle master/future rap star. Speaking of which, here are some great threads to check out: The aspartame scare, Goofy microwave myths, James Cameron finds Jesus and of course, the discussion about the second debate between Phil Plait and Joe Rogan on Penn Radio.
February 25th, 2007
Just got back. Thanks everyone who sent me your bios, suggestions, and compliments! It's all VERY much appreciated. I'll be updating the site with new fan bios in the next couple of days as well as posting new podcast info pages. Rebecca and Jay sent me their bios. I was able to put Rebecca's bio up before I left. And Jay's bio is up now. Take a look. Episode 83 was posted, check out the official notes and the official forum thread. Subscribe to the Skeptics' Guide to the Universe on iTunes to listen to it.
February 22nd, 2007
Posted episodes 22 and 23 today. The Jan Helen McGee interview in episode 23 is worth a second listen. Steve put a poll up on the forums. Go vote. Also it might be worth your time to check out this poll about the number of Mac users on the forums. And also this thread about being an atheist in Catholic school is very interesting as well. I'll be away for the entire weekend and Jay will announce the site on episode 83 which should be posted sometime Saturday. So WELCOME TO SGUFans.net. I REALLY hope you guys like it. As you can see it's not complete yet. Please take the time to fill out this form so I can put it on our Fan Bios page. The site will evolve in the next few months, I plan on adding a LOT more fan-based content. I just have to get through the regular content (episode guide, cast bios etc.) Please send me your comments and suggestions to sgufan@sgufans.net. I plan on having a section for fan essays and articles, so please send me any articles or essays you have written to sgufan@sgufans.net.
February 20th, 2007
Thank you Iron Man for the awesome logo! I added a bunch of sounds to the media section and posted episodes 20 and 21 this morning. I'll probably post a few more this evening. In the meantime, go over to the forums and check out the interesting discussions going on there. First of all you HAVE to check out The Science or Fiction Challenge for Jay. And also check out this thread for a great discussion between Steve and some forum members regarding religion. Check out A Letter to a Stupid Atheist and the discussion on that. I'll be working on gathering up some articles and essays published by or about the NESS and the SGU. If you come across any let me know at sgufan@sgufans.net.
February 18th, 2007
Well I made it through to episode 19 this weekend, not 20 as I had hoped, but more than 17 as I had predicted. IRON MAN finally revealed some of his secrets on the forums. SCriminal went to the site of the Jesus Camp movie and found nothing. Awesome discussion on cryptography has been happening on the official Episode 82 thread. I put up the indexes for the fans and cast bios, and sent the cast my bio form for them to fill out. If you have any question you'd like the panel to answer about themselves, let me know at sgufan@sgufans.net. I'll hopefully get a few of their bios by next week's episode. Jay said that he'd announce it on the next show. I hope you all like it. It'll still be a work in progress. I have about 60 hours left of podcast to go through for the episode guide, but that's a good thing, because as Steve said, they're "just so damn exciting".
February 17th, 2007
Episode 82 was posted today. See the official notes HERE, and the thread in the forums HERE. Great episode (as usual). I went through episodes 4-11 today and posted the summaries. My goal is still to hit 20 by the end of tomorrow, but I predict (gasp!) that I'll only make it to episode 17 or so. In the meantime, I was perusing the forums and came across a posting by Jay with this video featuring Sam Harris, author of The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation. It's worth a look.
February 16th, 2007
I decided to throw away the rss blog feeds for a simpler and more functional design by removing the entire right pane to make more room for content. Episode 82 should be posted soon. I'm currently working on the Episode Guide going through each episode to find interesting facts, funny quotes and so on. I should hopefully be up to Episode 20 by the end of this weekend.
February 15th, 2007
Figured out my entire layout, just waiting for some advice from friends. I'm using DIVs with one iFrame for the middle frame. I think it looks good. Got SGUFans.net registered.
February 13th, 2007
I added the RSS Feeds to Steve and Rebecca's Blogs and setup the navigation images. Sent the rough logo idea to IRON MAN and Jay to see how and if they can help. I also worked on the episode guide,
February 12th, 2007
The site has begun, I just started on the layout and I'm working on the logo. Richard Dawkins appeared on CNN tonight. It seemed REALLY edited! Oh, and HAPPY DARWIN DAY!
